Gram Vikas, which literally means 'Village Development' is an organization that has been working since 1979, to bring about sustainable improvement in the quality of life of poor and marginalised rural communities - mostly in Orissa.  The core group of Gram Vikas had come to Orissa as student volunteers of Young Students' Movement for Development(YSMD), Chennai  to serve victims of a devastating cyclone in early 1970s.  Registered as a society on January 22, 1979, under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. Gram Vikas currently serves more than 295,800 people in 851 habitations of 22 districts in Orissa. mission statement
