The project ‘SBI Gram Saksham’ is being implemented in Kalahandi district, Odisha, where rural communities face water scarcity, low agricultural productivity, and limited livelihood opportunities due to dependence on rainfed agriculture. The project aims to strengthen water resources, improve irrigation, and enhance livelihoods to support sustainable rural development.

ACTIVITIES

  • Rejuvenation and restoration of 3 community ponds through desilting, structural strengthening, and development of sustainable water management systems to improve water storage and irrigation access.
  • Construction of 2 check dams at suitable locations to harvest rainwater, enhance groundwater recharge, and improve irrigation availability for nearby agricultural lands.
  • Renovation of approximately 500 meters of irrigation canal through desilting and structural strengthening to improve water flow and irrigation efficiency.
  • Construction of 10 farm ponds for individual farmers to support rainwater harvesting and provide reliable water sources for irrigation, livestock, and farming activities.
  • Installation of solar-powered irrigation pump systems for farmer groups to promote sustainable irrigation and reduce dependence on diesel or grid electricity.
  • Establishment of community-managed farm tool banks to provide farmers access to agricultural equipment such as ploughs, seeders, sprayers, and threshers, improving productivity and reducing costs.
  • Provision of seasonal vegetable seed support to 50 small and marginal farmers to promote resilient agriculture and enhance household income and nutrition.
  • Maintenance and operation of community assets including Prerna Centre, Computer Training Centre, street lights, health centres, and other village infrastructure.
  • Operation of SBI Sanjeevani mobile healthcare services, including regular health camps and provision of basic healthcare services to approximately 2000 rural households.
  • Organising farmer training, capacity building, awareness sessions, and exposure visits to promote improved agricultural practices, strengthen livelihoods, and ensure sustainable use of project interventions.
