Water and Livelihoods Secure Gram Panchayats Programme

The “Water and Livelihoods Secure Gram Panchayats Programme” project will strengthen the communities’ institutional, technical, and financial capabilities. It is a collaborative measure for water security. It will build and promote practices and infrastructure for water conservation and reasonable use. Enable water-based livelihood opportunities with the participation of women in economic activities, and build community systems for integrated water, sanitation & hygiene, and nutrition.

The project aims to help build village-level capacities for managing sustainable water conservation and livelihood development across 3 Gram Panchayats of Odisha and Jharkhand.

ACTIVITIES

  • Sensitization sessions with community, PRI representatives on the project and roles of different stakeholders
  • Facilitate preparation of village action plan
  • Facilitate training of Village Development Committee and SHG leaders on organisation management, accounting and bookkeeping
  • Facilitate formation and strengthening of Bal Sansad and Kishori-Kishor Samuh
  • Support families with home lighting system to promote children’s education and social needs
  • Conduct Hydro-geological survey of the Gram Panchayat (dug well inventory, geological mapping, aquifer performance test to evaluate groundwater situation)
  • Prepare village level water security plans
  • Facilitate Gram Panchayat level workshops for integrating Water Security Plans into Gram Panchayat Development Plans
  • Renovation of water bodies, plantation and land development activities for water conservation
  • Facilitate water quality surveillance and management at community level
  • Repair and maintenance of water sources
  • Construction of household level toilet & bathing room with Swachh Bharat Mission 
  • Conduct sensitization sessions for improved WASH behaviour at community level
  • Effective management of Solid and Liquid waste at household and community level
  • Undertake sessions on Menstrual Hygiene Management & life skills for adolescents
  • Facilitate formation and strengthening of Farmer Producer Groups (FPG)
  • Promote biofloc model fisheries
  • Promote improved ways of livestock husbandry
  • Establish new/repair and augmentation of irrigation infrastructures with community systems in function
  • Promote women led enterprises 
  • Conduct interface meeting with line departments, Mission Shakti and Odisha Livelihood Mission
