SBI Gram Seva
The ‘SBI Gram Seva’ project in Kalahandi District, Odisha was implemented in five villages of Lakhbahali Gram Panchayat, Lanjigarh Block. The project simultaneously intervened in the areas of digitisation, education, health, WaSH, skill and livelihood development, women empowerment, youth development, community engagement, infrastructure and environment.
The project aims to develop the adopted villages with holistic intervention for improving infrastructure and basic facilities, facilitating access to government services and schemes, enabling digital access for banking and government services, and capacity building of village institutions for implementation and sustainability of the programme.

ACTIVITIES
- Setting up Gram Seva Kendra (GSK) in villages, conducting awareness programmes on various schemes and services, and providing online services to the communities
- Setting up smart classrooms, computer and science labs and libraries in schools, conducting remedial classes in villages and organising academic, sports and science events
- Conducting health camps in villages, promoting healthy diet practices through kitchen garden
- Improvements in access to safe drinking water and sanitation

RESULTS
- Five Gram Seva Kendras were set up to offer digital services like online applications, photocopies, and computer training. A computer lab in Rughaguda village was set up to train youth batches, improving digital skills and job readiness in the community.
- A smart classroom was set up at Talbora Government School to provide modern learning tools. Remedial classes in five villages helped 543 students improve academically. Five libraries were opened to encourage reading, and 24 students received SBI Ojas scholarships for education and extracurricular achievements. Cultural and sports activities promoted overall development and student engagement.
- The SBI Sanjeevani Ambulance provided emergency medical transport services to 123 patients. Five health camps benefited over 250 individuals with diagnostic support and referrals. The Bengoan Primary Health Centre was upgraded with essential facilities to strengthen local healthcare delivery. Seventy households established nutrition gardens, promoting better dietary diversity and nutrition awareness.
- Access to safe water improved with piped connections for 69 households. Sanitation was strengthened through 28 community bathing rooms and 44 dustbins. Renovation of two ponds and a check dam boosted water availability, while soak pits and waste management systems promoted hygiene and reduced pollution.
- Fifty-four women received tailoring training, and 10 started their own businesses, boosting household incomes. Sustainable farming on 31.5 acres was promoted with solar irrigation, while tools like power tillers and weeders improved efficiency. Goat and poultry farming further supported rural livelihoods.
- Thirty-two solar street lights were installed to improve night-time safety and cut energy costs. Infrastructure like tubewell platforms, dug wells, and meeting mandaps was developed to meet local needs. Open gyms were also set up to promote fitness and engage youth.
- Under the SBI Jan Van initiative, 5660 trees were planted on 10 acres to boost green cover and biodiversity. To support soil and water conservation, 4040 contour trenches and 147 field bunds were built. Community programs promoted sustainable practices and encouraged local participation in environmental efforts.
