Oracle Smart Classroom in Tribal Residential Schools

The 'Oracle Smart Classroom in Tribal Residential Schools' supports two schools - Gram Vikas Shiksha Niketan, Thuamul Rampur and Gram Vikas Residential School, Kankia - in Kalahandi district, Odisha - to use smart classrooms to enhance learning-teaching outcomes.

The project aims to provide continued support for improved learning-teaching outcomes using smart classrooms in tribal residential schools.

ACTIVITIES

  • Collecting and sharing e-learning materials such as textbook centred e-learning materials from OPEPA for Classes III to VIII, scientific experiments & videos by Arvind Gupta, and e-books from Pratham and NBT; and online resources from Coursera, Khan Academy, and Academic Earth among others
  • Quality management of school-classroom-teachers with the use of e-resource materials in a smart classroom environment
  • Training on Design Thinking framework by DFC (Design for Change) to promote skills like Leadership, Communication, and Collaboration; Critical and Creative thinking among children
  • Training children on STEM learning, focussing on “hands-on” and “DIY” methods to incite creativity and imagination in young minds by Pratham
  • Creating working models on Human Digestive system, Solar system, and Change of season
  • Teachers training on incorporating digital literacy in a multilingual tribal set-up by trainers from Azim Premji University

RESULTS

  • 347 students learn basics of computer, programming and Microsoft Office applications through ‘CCIB-Certificate Course in IT for Beginners’ from NIIT Foundation
  • 460 students learn about advanced excel, using internet for accessing services, and social networks from the ‘Advanced Digital Literacy Program and Certification Courses’ from NIIT Foundation 
  • 105 Class X students receive career counselling, making their resume, and support for online admissions made possible by internet availability from the Oracle Virtual Classrooms initiative
  • Established smart classrooms for Grade 3 to 10 in two schools enabling use of digital tools in teaching and learning
  • Support to develop scientific temper in students through ‘Oracle ICT Learning Centre and Innovation Lab’ set up as ‘Rural Incubation Centres’ accessed by students from Gram Vikas Residential School and nearby schools
  • Built capacities of 63 teachers by education specialists from Azim Premji University on digital literacy, smart classrooms, use of ICT, and STEM
  • Capacities of 21 teachers built on activity-based learning in STEM in collaboration with Pratham
  • Use of multimedia tools by teachers and students for classroom learning
  • Design and manufacture of single-board microcontrollers for digital devices by the user community
  • Upgraded digital libraries with the latest e-learning materials in four schools
